Welcome!

Welcome to the Bright Star Blog!

I thought this would be a good place to share news about the world of Bright Star, exciting discoveries in the gemstone industry plus information and reports from the multiple gem and mineral shows I attend.

First up is actually a little bit of product news left over from Tucson. Yes, I know it's a little late........However, no one else has covered the topics below. In future blogs, there will also be more pictures and Super 3D graphics.

Surprisingly this has gotten very little attention: Diamond Pacific has a new cabbing machine with many innovative features. Named the Xpert, the most notable feature is the seventh wheel. That's right, it's got seven not six wheels. The first six wheels are Diamond Pacific's standard and well proven line-up - 80 and 220 grit Galaxy wheels plus 280, 600, 1200 and 3000 Nova wheels. The seventh wheel can be whatever the user desires - carving, extra coarse, extra fine, expanding drum for belts, etc.

On the left side, there is a .5" arbor hole for a 6" diamond or polishing lap. The right side is tapped for 1/4-20 polishing pads and accessories.

The Xpert incorporates a lot of features found on the other machines from Diamond Pacific: 1.75" spacing between the wheels like the Titan and the pans on top from the Pixie. The 1/3 hp motor is mounted in the rear which is also similar to the Pixie.

The list price is $1875 for 110 volt or $1995 for 220 volts. While the machine isn't on their website yet, you can give them a call and they'll fill you in on more details. Diamond Pacific

Diamond Pacific wasn't alone in sharing off a new machine.

The Deal Cabber is the new kid on the block and has two models now - the BMT-7 and the BMT-9. By offering some alternatives to the current offerings on the market, they could be on to something.

With a standard six wheel arrangement, the BMT-7 uses a 1" stainless steel arbor coupled to a 1/2 hp motor. The BMT-9 takes the 6+ wheel one step farther than the Xpert with eight wheels powered by a 3/4 hp motor. The BMT-9 is also unique in that it will take 4", 6" or 8" wheels. The right side will take 1/4-20 threaded accessories.

Since both products from Deal Cabber are made from heavy duty non-skid aluminum, they look like they'll survive a bomb blast! Prices start at $1865 for the complete BMT-7 and $1850 for the BMT-9 without wheels or motor.

Deal Cabber sells the BMT-1 water system separately for $265. This is standard with their machines and available as an after-market product for other manufacturer's units. Included are a pump, filter and manifold that delivers a fresh stream of water.

You can visit their website Deal Cabber or contact them by email.  Unfortunately, they don't list a phone number on their website or business card.

So it's good to see some new products for cab making.

That's all for now.

Next up - Some Cool New Rough or the other really great thing about Tucson!
